[Bug 31338] New: Max Payne 2 shows white screen and nothing else
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31338 Bug #: 31338 Summary: Max Payne 2 shows white screen and nothing else Product: Wine Version: 1.5.9 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: michael(a)araneidae.co.uk Classification: Unclassified When starting Max Payne 2 (The Fall of Max Payne) from Steam after the video mode selection and the initial logo the entire screen goes white and stays white. The Steam in-game popup appears at the bottom right, but there is no text, only white boxes, and when the game gets to what is presumably the initial menu all that is visible apart from the white screen is three small greyish rectangles. Nothing appears to work. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

What video card and drivers?
Good point, forgot (ought to be on the bug list form!) HD 6950 with Radeon drivers (lib32-ati-dri 8.0.4-1 and allies) on Arch. Will try the demo tomorrow and report. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Does the downloadable (non-steam) demo also show this problem? ( http://www.rockstargames.com/maxpayne2/downloads/MaxPayne2DemoSetup.exe )
Well, that's interesting: the demo works perfectly! (Something goes wrong when the game exits, it churns out fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100 messages until I kill it with `wineserver -k`, but that's an unrelated issue.) (In reply to comment #5)
those lines are present for me as well. Yes, my run transcript below shows them as well, so red herring.
Did the game work for you with previous Wine versions? Bought it on steam last weekend (in the sale), so never tried it before.
So what on earth is the Steam version doing wrong? My steam runs in a different prefix, guess I need to also try installing the demo under the same prefix and see what happens. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31338 --- Comment #7 from Michael Abbott <michael(a)araneidae.co.uk> 2012-07-28 02:52:47 CDT --- Ok, now trying installing the MP2 demo in the same prefix I use for running Steam. The installer gives me a popup saying: Your system does not have AGP Acceleration enabled. Note that I did *not* get this when installing the demo in a fresh prefix, so this is very fishy, in particular it's nothing to do with what's installed on my system, it must be something local to the wine prefix. However, the demo still works and the steam version doesn't. So there's something different about the Steam version of the game... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

No, that's not what I'm saying. Here's a little matrix: Fresh prefix, demo: Works perfectly (except for a weirdness on shutdown) Steam prefix, demo: Works perfectly, but installer complains about missing "AGP acceleration" Steam prefix, steam version: Doesn't work -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
