[Bug 27459] New: Removing default applications bindings on installation
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27459 Summary: Removing default applications bindings on installation Product: Wine Version: 1.3.22 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: enhancement Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: xavier.poirot(a)dalaen.com There is an annoying "feature" of wine, during installation. It is adding entries in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache to bind, for examples .txt files to Notepad inside Wine (the Windows Notepad). Due to that "hidden" behaviour, the default program to view some kinds of files are bound to Wine, instead of simple Linux programs (eg. above, Notepad instead of GEdit). It would be nice to prevent creating those binds, so they're not altered. Especially for very common files such as text-files... My distribution is ArchLinux 64 bits. If you need any more details, please let me know. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27459 --- Comment #2 from gat <gatlinsullivan(a)yahoo.com> 2012-11-21 23:26:18 CST --- I was confused. You meant that .txt was associated with Wine's notepad in lie of the Linux default, gedit. Yeah, that can be annoying. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Can you try again in Wine 1.7.45 or later? You may need to remove the cache so that it's built again from scratch. I recall it used to have some odd behaviour years ago so I suspect that this may be fixed. I also suspect that it's not Wine that sets this but the distro, but others will know better than I do. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. See bug 19182, that doesn't sound like something in Wine upstream (though a screenshot would help know what you're referring to). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Note all the Wine-related garbage left over from upgrades. I think this is from packages rather than Wine itself. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. No, that's wine adding those entries. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
