By definition this can not be Wine's issue. Unless of course you running it as root.

What video card? What drivers? Even if Wine does something wrong drivers should
not crash the system.

Closing invalid - as the actual cause it known - Wine does not support
multi-threaded openGL. And some drivers do not like when Wine uses OGL context
owned by other thread.
