[Bug 13304] New: Halo 2: Launching files, app sits there munching 100% CPU
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13304 Summary: Halo 2: Launching files, app sits there munching 100% CPU Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc1 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: liquitsnake(a)gmx.net Created an attachment (id=13161) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13161) +all logfile (7.5MB extracted) Alright, after I defeated the msvc*8*.dll problem (which was related to my .wine) the next problem arises. Halo 2 manages to launch, but does nothing. I get one line of regular log fixme:powrprof:DllMain (0x7e3f0000, 1, 0x1) not fully implemented after which the app proceeds to use 100% CPU power while doing nothing. I tried various debug channels, including +ALL. Even with +ALL, logging ceases after 7.4MB. It's like it's waiting for something. I have no idea what the matter could be. Hopefully some dev can look into this and maybe even fix this. No idea. Additional info: I'm using the Loader.exe which came with my version of Halo2 that was modified to work with WinXP. My command: wine Loader.exe halo2.exe ( Executing halo2.exe directly makes it crash with these messages: fixme:ole:CoInitializeSecurity ((nil),0,(nil),(nil),1,3,(nil),0,(nil)) - stub! err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {9a5ea990-3034-4d6f-9128-01f3c61022bc} could be created for context 0x1 err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5} not registered err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {88d969c0-f192-11d4-a65f-0040963251e5} could be created for context 0x1 This program tried to use a DOMDocument object, but libxml2 support was not present at compile time. fixme:ole:CoCreateInstance no instance created for interface {2933bf95-7b36-11d2-b20e-00c04f983e60} of class {f5078f32-c551-11d3-89b9-0000f81fe221}, hres is 0x80004001 fixme:msxml:DllCanUnloadNow err:ole:CoUninitialize Mismatched CoUninitialize ) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

This program tried to use a DOMDocument object, but libxml2 support was not present at compile time.

When setting winecfg to simulate Windows Vista, I get a similar dump of fixme's. When trying to use the Loader.exe program (which makes it work in XP) and setting winecfg to Windows XP mode, I originally got some errors about msvcr80.dll and msvcp80.dll. I next used winetricks to install the MS Visual C++ 2005 libraries and tried again. Now I get the following output: fixme:powrprof:DllMain (0x7e640000, 1, 0x1) not fully implemented and it just sits there pegging one CPU of my core2duo. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Is this still present in current (1.1.28 or newer) wine?
I'm afraid so. When trying to run it with winecfg set to emulate Windows Vista, the game fails to launch entirely (separate bug posted for that). This bug refers specifically to using a 3rd-party xp loader and having winecfg set to Windows XP mode. Same thing happens with 1.1.28 - I get 100% cpu activity, no console output and nothing ever launches. Instructions and link to XP patch can be found here: http://www.psu.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147529 Note that I am using an actual Halo 2 Vista DVD and not a pirated copy, so there is no question of my copy being corrupt or different. It does work fine on my Vista boot, but not in Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit running wine 1.1.28 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
