Bug 20000 has been closed but this is still an issue in current git.
Works fine here; it's only an issue if you prevent gecko from installing. Try $ winetricks gecko. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20969 --- Comment #8 from Jukka Tastula <poltsy(a)gmail.com> 2010-09-25 08:19:06 CDT --- Created an attachment (id=30953) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=30953) harsh reality It doesn't matter if I install gecko (in a clean prefix or the same where I have the game installed) through winetricks or let the built-in downloader install it, I always get this. Wine 1.1.28 is still the last one where this works properly for me. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

You guys don't per chance have it installed, too? http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20969 Jukka Tastula <poltsy(a)gmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|CLOSED |UNCONFIRMED Resolution|DUPLICATE | --- Comment #10 from Jukka Tastula <poltsy(a)gmail.com> 2010-09-25 10:09:31 CDT --- I feel like an ass reopening this again but I've now installed ubuntu 10.04 to test this on what I might call a more common setup (I guess) to make sure it's not just my system and I'm still seeing the exact same behaviour. Version 1.1.28 works, 1.1.29 through 1.1.32 crash with an unhandled exception in urlmon and everything newer than that simply refuse to render the page. In all these cases installing ie6 makes everything seem fine since it installs its own urlmon and friends. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20969 --- Comment #11 from Thomas Spear <Speeddymon(a)gmail.com> 2010-09-25 15:14:07 CDT --- Have you tried 1.2.x or 1.3.x at all? I am using a clean prefix with just gecko and it works fine. Try 1.2.x or 1.3.x and let us know. 1.1.x is really old and not maintained anymore -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20969 --- Comment #12 from Jukka Tastula <poltsy(a)gmail.com> 2010-09-26 05:31:31 CDT --- I have tried every single version from where the git master is since friday on debian 64bit and every single ubuntu package on 10.04 32bit from 1.3.3 down to 1.1.28 where it magically starts working on both systems. Removed prefix in every case, installed gecko. Only thing that changes is if I don't install gecko I get a message telling me html rendering has been disabled. With gecko installed (like you can see from me console output capture) the message doesn't appear yet no actual rendering in the application occurs in >1.1.28. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20969 --- Comment #13 from Thomas Spear <Speeddymon(a)gmail.com> 2010-09-27 19:33:43 CDT --- That is very odd. Do you make any changes in winecfg after clearing the prefix? Anything at all? Also, how was this instance of wow installed originally? Im suspecting it's location as a possible cause at the moment. I go into winecfg to get sound and drives setup, using the autodetect, and then modifying the drives to suit my needs, but I leave the Z: drive, as that covers my entire filesystem. If you don't go into winecfg at all, then the drive setup -may- have something to do with it. Even if you do, the filesystem used on the device where your wow is installed may be a cause. So might be just how it was installed (wine vs windows, diff win versions, or even disc vs web installers). I'm just trying to rule out anything that might be different between our setups. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20969 --- Comment #14 from Jukka Tastula <poltsy(a)gmail.com> 2010-09-28 05:08:54 CDT --- I didn't run winecfg at all, just pointed WINEPREFIX to somewhere new and ran the launcher. Now retesting I find that having it inside the prefix makes no difference (which was the original setup anyway). Removing Z: doesn't change anything, except that it has to be inside the prefix of course. The game was originally installed from cds and dvd with wine on ext4 and I tried ext3 in ubuntu and fedora 13. Also the net installed cataclysm beta launcher has the same issue. The launcher seems to be rather self-contained as you can just copy wow.exe and launcher.exe to any directory anywhere without ever installing the game and it will run as it should (on wine 1.1.28 and windows xp/7 anyway). It doesn't seem to depend on any magic registry keys created during installation or any other files in the game itself. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Does any app run on that Wine prefix?
Nothing else was running in the prefix while testing if that's what you meant? The launcher (and the game or any other app I choose to install in it) run just fine from any prefix, it just won't show the news and whatnot in the window like it used to. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

This is from a fresh install of WoW using Wine 1.3.6, but the patch notes/game news does not display on the launcher. When the game is updating it is completely blank, now that the updates have finished it is giving me a message "Cannot connect to the News Server. Please check the network and try again later." I wonder if there is some setting in Wine to enable this. I can play WoW so the network connection is up, but I did install IE6 and it would not connect to the net. If the launcher is just rendering a web page could this be related? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
