[Bug 10775] New: Regression since 0.9.47 until 0.9.51: software crashes upon start
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10775 Summary: Regression since 0.9.47 until 0.9.51: software crashes upon start Product: Wine Version: 0.9.51. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: wine-dbghelp AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: versaille(a)numericable.fr Created an attachment (id=9633) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=9633) Backtrace An old sofware that worked fine for a long time does not work at all since wine 0.9.47. I tried every version until 0.9.51. It crashes when I start it. So I keep reinstallilng and using wine 0.9.46 after I try each new version of wine. I use Debian Etch/Testing/Unstable. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Otherwise the bugreport is completely useless Also, please consider running a regression test: http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10775 --- Comment #2 from WhinyWiner <versaille(a)numericable.fr> 2007-12-15 07:07:39 --- The software's name is absolutely irrelevant and useless anyway, it is a very old French dictionary that probably noone here ever heard of. It is called Le Grand Robert, but I could name it gzgh71 or dvt244bd3: it won't help anyone to solve that bug unless bug solving now involves voodoo incantations. I will do the regression testing today or tomorrow if you swear on my life that the backtrace is useless. Thank you Stefan! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10775 --- Comment #3 from Stefan Dösinger <stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at> 2007-12-15 07:26:46 --- The software's name allows us to test this ourselves, if it is still available. If the software isn't available any more, you're pretty much on your own. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10775 --- Comment #4 from WhinyWiner <versaille(a)numericable.fr> 2007-12-15 07:58:28 --- So it means the backtrace and regression testing are absolutely useless? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10775 --- Comment #5 from Stefan Dösinger <stefandoesinger(a)gmx.at> 2007-12-15 08:24:59 --- Regression testing definitly isn't useless. The backtrace doesn't help much without regression testing though. But remote debugging is a terrible task, and most people prefer to have the app themselves. (The backtrace looks 16 bit related, and I have no idea about that, so I won't be able to help you personally) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10775 Dan Kegel <dank(a)kegel.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |dank(a)kegel.com --- Comment #6 from Dan Kegel <dank(a)kegel.com> 2007-12-15 08:52:47 --- I downloaded a demo of the current version (2.0), and will file bugs for that, but it's probably much newer than the one you have (yours was partly 16 bits) and has different bugs. He's not saying regression testing is useless; he's saying you need to do it yourself, as we can't help if we can't get a copy of the app, and it's awful hard for us to do that if we don't even know what it's called. So go ahead and do the regression test by building from source and using 'git bisect' to find the patch that broke things. If you can find a copy we can try, so much the better. (There seems to be one or two for sale on ebay.fr; are any of those the same version you have?) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

As for the component, I checked that component since it is the first word I saw appear in the backtrace, but I do not know how relevant it is. So I am doing the bisecting on wine as a whole, not on any specific component.
