A lot of changes have happened in wine. And I presume this is a duplicate of other bugs we already hqd. Please upgrade to either the latest stable release (today 1.8.0) or the latest development release (today 1.9.1). And then test again in a fresh WINEPREFIX. Steam is so generally used that we should know by now if it has more issues than reported ones.
