[Bug 9788] New: Bug with OSS sound in latest WoW patch 2.2.0
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9788 Summary: Bug with OSS sound in latest WoW patch 2.2.0 Product: Wine Version: 0.9.45. Platform: Other OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-multimedia AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: kris(a)pcbsd.org After updating World of Warcraft to the latest patch, 2.2.0, sound seems to be messed up when using the "OSS" driver. The sound appears to be "jerky" and static, while the game itself runs fine. This may have something to do with the update in WoW to support voice chat and their sound-driver. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9788 --- Comment #3 from Kris Moore <kris(a)pcbsd.org> 2007-09-26 21:29:35 --- Here's my soundcard type: pcm0: <nVidia nForce3 250> port 0xbc00-0xbcff,0xc000-0xc07f mem 0xe8000000-0xe8000fff irq 21 at device 6.0 on pci0 pcm0: <Avance Logic ALC850 AC97 Codec> I have my windows version set to XP, Audio HW acceleration set to full, sample rate 44100, and default bits per sample as 16. For the record, it worked just fine until the recent 2.2.0 patch in WoW. So far I've tried different combinations of settings, and it always seems the same. Almost like its "crackling" or "Stuttering" a bit. I've seen several other users posting similar issues on the AppDB, not sure what HW they have also. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9788 --- Comment #4 from Kris Moore <kris(a)pcbsd.org> 2007-09-26 22:05:45 --- I've done some further investigation on this issue, and I'm not convinced its a problem with Wine now. Turns out patch 2.2 rolled out a new software driven sound system: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1531075321&sid=1 And to confirm this, it appears that many Windows users are having the exact same issues: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=1778015360&sid=1 I guess for now you can mark the bug as INVALID, since it may be something to fix on Blizzards end of things. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9788 --- Comment #5 from Bleeter Yaluser <winehq-bugzilla(a)bleeter.id.au> 2007-09-26 22:21:54 --- Kris, Yeah, there's still quite a few reports of audio issues on Win32 native, leading me to suspect it's more than likely an upstream issue - although I'm not discounting the possibility it might be a Wine issue causing your (or other) problems. As such, I think we should keep this bug report open, although no action should be taken until such time as we see some indication from upstream that their cleanup rate is improving. Some things to note, though, is that for a number of people reporting issues in Wine, fiddling with various audio settings in winecfg, as well as maybe lowering the number of soundchannels ingame (via the audio options menu) may help. Additionally, if your server doesn't have voice chat available for it, make sure that it's disabled in the Config.wtf settings. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Updating to 0.9.46 helped quite a bit (before that it was bad enough that the login sound caused enough delay for me to timeout while logging in). I believe I've tried all kinds of different audio settings for wine, but without any noticeable differences between them. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

We've identified some performance bottlenecks in Patch 2.2.0 that are non hardware specific (Windows, Mac, integrated sound, discrete sound, doesn't matter). Please keep your eye out for an upcoming PTR cycle, where you can try the next update, targeted at addressing many of the in-game lag issues that you are describing. --- Depending on the status of this when it's launched, we'll either close this entry and open a new one/set, or continue on with this entry. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
