[Bug 18359] New: InstallShield fails with "Access Denied" dialog when trying to install to FAT32 volume
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18359 Summary: InstallShield fails with "Access Denied" dialog when trying to install to FAT32 volume Product: Wine Version: 1.1.20 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: roothorick(a)new.rr.com on /mnt/local I have mounted a large FAT32 partition that I use as a common partition between Linux and Windows. In wine it's set up as E:, and a normal hard disk. Since my Linux partition is significantly smaller I have to install most to all games there. But a number of games are failing to install with a mysterious "Access Denied" error. The running user has full access to the volume. I'll attach a screenshot. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18359 --- Comment #3 from Ben Anderson <roothorick(a)new.rr.com> 2009-05-05 00:12:38 --- The game I've most recently discovered to have the issue is Shaiya (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=6242). Twelve Sky 2 also shows this issue, but is less of a concern since it doesn't run anyway (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=9647) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18359 --- Comment #4 from Ben Anderson <roothorick(a)new.rr.com> 2009-05-05 18:22:29 --- The obvious workaround, installing to an ext2 partition and copying over, doesn't work, at least in the case of Shaiya. The updater fails with a cryptic "Extraction failed" message and trying to run the game directly only calls the updater. Running it from the ext2 volume allows it to progress to the current GameGuard-related brick wall. Apparently IS isn't the only victim of this bug... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

That's a different bug then. You need a new bug for that, if one isn't already open. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18359 --- Comment #6 from Ben Anderson <roothorick(a)new.rr.com> 2009-05-06 14:25:20 --- I think, at a minimum, they're related. Wine behaves differently when the target files are on FAT32, and that breaks certain apps. But if you really want me to open a new bug, I can. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
