I suspect the AppDB is going to become a more attractive target for spammers now that we can effectively keep them out of the forum. AppDB admins need comment moderation tools like the forum has, including the ability to ban spammers. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I really like it. [blog-looking url that leads to deleted blog] at [link to the blog service] I strongly suspect this is a spam because the user really made an effort to include the links, and the fact that the blog was deleted. Could we put some easy guidelines to the users and also for reference when moderating? I'd like something that doesn't require us to check urls/blogs whatever. I might have agreed to something when I created it but I could not find it now (and I'm not making a new account just to find out). I suggest something like: *Post only comments relevant to the execution (running) of this application *Do not include irrelevant URLs, or advertisements. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31973 --- Comment #4 from Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio(a)earthlink.net> 2013-04-05 08:21:06 CDT --- Moderators are free to add notes about what is appropriate to post, but spammers are not going to be stopped by that. They know they're spamming. They want to spam. The problem is that AppDB admins do not have the ability to ban accounts. We can delete spam when we find it, but cannot stop anyone from repeatedly posting it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

This check will happen each time a post is submitted, if the IP or e-mail on the account is listed, the post will be denied. After that I'll add some post limits in for new accounts. If your account is new, and you have < X posts (say 5), you are limited to 1 post a day. Once you hit 5 posts, you can freely post. Spammers will then at least have to wait 5 days with 5 posts until they can flood us. Then, perhaps we can add some 'flag as spam' buttons for logged in users. So users can flag posts, and the admins can more easily clean them up. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31973 --- Comment #9 from Rob Hills <rhills(a)medimorphosis.com.au> --- I've noticed this problem growing over the past few months. I would like to see at least a link that enables me to flag a comment as Spam to alert the administrators. Ideally maintainers could be given the ability to moderate such flagged comments to reduce the workload on the system admin(s). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31973 --- Comment #10 from Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio(a)earthlink.net> --- Maintainers already have the ability to delete spam; that's a key part of their responsibilities. Unfortunately, not all maintainers are doing their jobs. If you see spam, first report it to the maintainer, and if he/she doesn't respond in a reasonable amount of time, report it on https://forum.winehq.org/viewforum.php?f=11. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
