When running Civilization I for Windows there appears a parasitic black window with "winevdm" caption. If to close this window, the game exits. In earlier versions of Wine (0.9.61) the window did not appear. I've been seeing exactly the same behavior with several 16-bit apps. Is it safe to assume it's this same bug affecting all of them?

A regression test should be run to find the patch the caused the problem. Once you've identified that patch, try reverting it and testing your 16-bit applications.
