This is with the mac driver, with X11 it is even more difficult to run anything. On Ubuntu Chessmaster works fine. The problem can be reproduced in the demo (check out the link). Direct3D works, though. Didn't diagnose the X11 driver failure but it might be similar. The game is setting the pixel format on a child window which is zero-sized and outside its parent window's client rect.
