[Bug 19968] New: Half-Life 2: crashes when launching
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19968 Summary: Half-Life 2: crashes when launching Product: Wine Version: 1.1.29 Platform: Macintosh OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: nescalona(a)firehousemail.com Created an attachment (id=23484) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=23484) terminal output Wine crashes when I click on the Launch button with Half-Life 2 selected in the My Games tab in Steam. I am running Arch Linux (dual-booted with Leopard on a Macbook (13-inch)), and I downloaded Wine from Arch's package manager. (http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/i686/wine/) After first encountering the crashing behavior, I removed ~/.wine and reinstalled everything pertaining to wine. I then installed Steam, following the instructions on the AppDB page for Steam. I then installed Half-Life 2 using Steam. When I click on the Launch button, Wine crashes. The attached file "log" is a copy of the terminal output when I start Wine with the command
wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe"
. The last four lines (not counting the $ prompt) appear once I click on the Launch button. The previous lines up to and including "fake device notification handle" appeared as Steam was loading. The attached file "report_file" was created using the command
WINEDEBUG=+relay wine "C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" 2>&1 | tee relay.out;tail -n 100 relay.out > report_file
. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Created an attachment (id=23485) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=23485) [details] last 100 lines of output with +relay
This is too late in the log. If anything, attached compressed +relay,+seh,+tid log, but first if this is a regression, run a regression test. http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19968 --- Comment #3 from Nicholas Escalona <nescalona(a)firehousemail.com> 2009-09-07 04:51:48 --- This is not a regression, as this is my first time trying Wine. My platform is Macintosh, not PC-x86-64. I am running this off a Macbook. I will add compressed +relay, +seh, +tid logs. Can you add this bug to the Half-Life 2 AppDB page? I don't know how to add bugs to apps, and the site seems to give no information on how to do so. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

This is not a regression, as this is my first time trying Wine.
but does it work in previous versions of Wine for you?
My platform is Macintosh, not PC-x86-64. I am running this off a Macbook.
Macintosh refers to Macs prior to their switch to Intel processors. If you are running Wine on PPC then you would select Macintosh but then it would make no sense to file a bug report for Half-Life 2 because it is not for PPC. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19968 --- Comment #7 from Nicholas Escalona <nescalona(a)firehousemail.com> 2009-09-07 17:19:33 --- I am having a good deal of trouble getting consistent behaviour. I installed mpg123, and also samba (to take care of the ntlm_auth error). Here's what happened immediately after I did that. 1. Launched Half-Life 2, it loaded fine. Laggy, but I lowered graphics settings. When I tried to modify the shader quality, Half-Life 2 crashed ("hl2.exe has encountered a serious error" or some such, in the popup). But Steam and Wine were just fine. 2. Launched Half-Life 2, got the message "hl2.exe has encountered a serious error". 3. Launched Half-Life 2, Wine crashed entirely just like when I first submitted this bug. 4. Launched Wine + Steam, then Half-Life 2. Got the message "hl2.exe has encountered a serious error". As you can see I'm getting really inconsistent behaviour. I'm not fully sure I see the point in posting logs (+relay, +seh, +tid) until I can consistently replicate my own reported behaviour. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
