You can actually move the mouse since it seems that the sampling of the previous position is not from the start of the movement. I was able to reproduce it by running the game in fullscreen mode, minimizing the game and after restoring it the mouse pointer would behave erratically as described. Easily worked around by running the game in windowed mode.
