[Bug 16128] New: Spore crashes before startup on Ubuntu 8.10

I have tried many different tips and tricks, including starting from a clean wine directory, installing DirectX9, changing the OffScreenRenderingMode, removing PulseAudio, and installing the latest Spore patch. I have not tried compiling from GIT. Here are the specs: Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Wine 1.1.8 Kernel 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP clean wine directory Spore 1.0 No EA Download Manager vm.mmap_min_addr = 0 command line: mike(a)fliptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/SPORE$ wine Sporebin/SporeApp.exe -safe Attached is the console output without a debug trace, showing unable to load winedos.dll followed by a segfault. I have set vm.mmap_min_addr = 0, but still get the crash. Any ideas? Last night I was working on getting 1.1.7 compiled (it's an x86_64 installation, which apparently causes other compilation issues) to see if it worked in 1.1.7. I had planned to also try with 1.1.6. I'll try the older versions from packages (http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html) instead of compilation to see if it works with the older version sometime over the weekend. Are there no other ways to try to debug the problem than regression testing?
We need to know which patch broke it.
