I see something similar to the reported problem when I open the SQL Monitor window (Ctrl+M) and begin typing in the text field. You have to type really fast to reproduce the problem in that window. With my normal typing speed, characters appear instantly. To reproduce after opening the program Open the Script Executive window, which is similar to the SQL Editor but does not require a database connection. Menu Tools -> Script Executive. This works fine in latest versions
