I tested this in several versions, and found that this is a regression that happened sometime between 0.9.54 and 1.0.1. However, I was left with several skipped commits at the end of my regression test. Of those, this looks like the most likely culprit: commit cb3ff54789c652b02d852f40db71cafd9fd67ca9 Author: Dmitry Timoshkov <dmitry(a)codeweavers.com> Date: Tue Mar 25 16:52:41 2008 +0800 winex11.drv: Don't add owned windows to the taskbar. The winex11 code has changed quite a bit since then, but after reverting what I think is the modern equivalent, the taskbar buttons appear again (diff is attached). It can be reproduced with "winetricks mono26", or with HTML-Kit's installer from the download link.
