Could you recompress as a ZIP file or other easily readable format? That said, I tested the sample application on wine-1.2-rc2-111-g9aa9a12 by pressing the "Save file" button, selecting My Documents, then specifying "example.txt" as the filename. This seemed to work for me, along with opening the example file with a similar procedure.
