[Bug 24630] New: Everquest 2 Extended - lots of black artifacting
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24630 Summary: Everquest 2 Extended - lots of black artifacting Product: Wine Version: 1.3.4 Platform: x86 URL: http://everquest.com OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: austinenglish(a)gmail.com CC: dank(a)kegel.com Created an attachment (id=31127) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=31127) screenshot It's been mentioned in a few bugs, but I don't see a bug for it, so here we go. First, make sure bug 11354 is fixed (e.g., that you're using git / 1.3.5 / applied that patch manually). Then, create a character and choose city Neriak, then launch into game. Go to the city, and move the camera around. Compare to the attached screenshot. This is on an nvidia GeForce 480. The buildings in the city should look like boring old off-white stucco, but instead they look like a distorted funhouse mirror, with hundreds of distorted reflections of your character. To work around this, turn on Shader 3.0 in options (click on EQII logo in lower left -> Options -> Performance -> Shader 3.0) and restart the game. According to the mouseover text, this requires cards with "600 PS instruction slots". -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Ignore that comment, here's the real stuff: It's been mentioned in a few bugs, but I don't see a bug for it, so here we go. To work around this, either: turn on Shader 3.0 in options (click on EQII logo in lower left -> Options -> Performance -> Shader 3.0) and restart the game. or leave on shader 1.0, but set 'Complex Shader Distance' to '-1'. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The problem should be visible only when shader model 3 shaders are disabled and complex shader distance is > -1 (these are options you can set in the game). It was understood this is some kind of Nvidia bug with Geforce 8xxx+ videocards. Is that also your case? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I'm using an Nvidia Geforce GT 240. As I said, the problem only exists when I drop my graphics below the Balanced preset. At Balanced, complex shader distance is 50. At High Performance (one step down), complex shader distance is 25. I haven't noticed anything on my windows pc. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I use an Nvidia GTX 460 on Ubuntu 11.04. As I've said before, this only happens when I use a preset below Balanced. This drops Complex Shader Distance from 50 to 25 so I don't believe it is the primary cause. On any graphics setting, my frame rate is roughly 20fps slower than in Windows and it may be caused by this bug as well. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Starting with a preset with bloom off, the artifacting is visible. Turning bloom on without changing other settings removes the artifacting. Starting with a preset with bloom on, the artfacting is not visible. Turning bloom off without changing other settings activates the artifacting. The two workarounds to this bug that I've discovered are to turn on bloom, or switch complex shader distance to -1. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

You have to create it as a string called AlwaysOffscreen and set it to "enabled" (without the quotation marks). I forgot to mention, this is a recent addition, you need Wine 1.3.27 or newer for this setting to have effect. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Could you perform a regression test? http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting Note it can also be a driver issue, e.g. with nVidia 295.20, so you may try to upgrade it, depending on your configuration. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
