[Bug 13470] New: Warhammer : Battle March (Loading)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13470 Summary: Warhammer : Battle March (Loading) Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc2 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: dl.zerocool(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=13387) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13387) Console logs Actually, warhammer is playable at decent speed. The troubleshooting is starting the game, or charging a map (mission, campaign, etc.) It requires arround 10min to have the first game menu... And it requires other 10minutes if you want to play. The game is unplayble since it requires 20minutes to start gaming. But the game itself even with highest options work very well. The problem is the same with older wine versions. And apparently the Warhammer mark of chaos (whitout battle march addon installed) Have the same loading problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

It is impossible to patch the game and test it as the copy protection issue prevents this game from being played. I'd suggest that this bug is probably pertaining to the NOCD edition, as with all of my experiments using a legally purchased copy, the game will not load under Wine. Loading times are somewhat long, but I don't get black screen for five minutes before loading screen. On a side note, from Google it seems like loading time is common problem for people running it on a native OS too, so it could be an exaggerated bug from the original game or even expected behavior. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I assure you it is _not_ an exaggerated bug report. The loading time difference between Wine's implementation and the proper OS is a radical departure. The proper OS clearly loads a good deal of high resolution textures and such, but it is possibly 1/50th of the loading time via the Wine implementation. The loading time takes upwards of five minutes, sometimes into the eight to ten minute range. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I am running game version 2.14 from GOG under Linux Mint. It fixed the issue running directly on Wine 5.0 and under Proton 7.0-5.
I made that fix a few months ago. In my article (https://fdossena.com/?p=whmoc/i.md) I explained the reason for the performance issue, it's not really a wine bug, the game has some leftover debug code that spams a system call that happens to be really slow on wine, so it's more of a combination of dev stupidity and a wine shortcoming. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
