[Bug 23050] New: Ubuntu downloads page inconsistent, and archive not maintained for latest versions
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23050 Summary: Ubuntu downloads page inconsistent, and archive not maintained for latest versions Product: WineHQ.org Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: www-unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: jan-winehq(a)h-i-s.nl The ubuntu download page http://www.winehq.org/download/deb states that an archive is maintained. This archive is http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html only maintained up to Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04). At the other hand, there is NO wine-1.2rc2 for Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04), as the formerly supported link: http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt jaunty ceased to be updated. The versions after wine-1.1.38 suffer regressions, so that I cannot use it on my machine. Is it possible a) to keep updating Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04) updates and archives b) to select an archive (I will probably need wine-1.1.38 after upgrade to Karmic) for newer releases ? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23050 --- Comment #1 from Andrew Nguyen <arethusa26(a)gmail.com> 2010-06-06 02:37:37 --- Looking at the download page right now, it recommends the Ubuntu PPA repository. I'm seeing the page in English; are you looking at some other localization of the page? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

That's no longer true since Ubuntu moved to ppa, so our web page needs to be updated. As for actually maintaining archives and updated packages for older versions of the distro, that's the distro's responsibility. File a bug with Ubuntu for that. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23050 --- Comment #3 from Scott Ritchie <scott(a)open-vote.org> 2010-06-06 08:15:46 --- So the story here is that: 1) The PPA doesn't make archiving old packages easy at all anymore 2) As a workaround I was planning on doing this manually 3) I fell a bit behind for personal "real life" reasons (the page only says up to 1.1.38, but in truth the files for up to 1.1.42 are there) 4) By the time I was ready to catch up and do the work of populating the archive we entered RC mode and the value of older versions rapidly diminished 5) 9.10 was such a bad release I'm not sure it's worth keeping an archive of it So that's where we are. I'll update 9.04, 9.10, and 10.04 in the PPA, and when 1.2 final is released I'll put that package into the apt repository and retire the archive for older versions for good. I'll then start the 10.04 archive. The page will need to be updated regardless, so I'll have to do that. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23050 --- Comment #4 from Jan Hoogenraad <jan-winehq(a)h-i-s.nl> 2010-06-06 12:24:19 --- Thanks for the quick responses. Indeed, the first point is a documentation one. I'm also llking at the English one. 9.04 and lower do NOT have ppa. E.g. : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa returns: sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found Could the old documentation, which was present approx half a year ago, be restored, with the instructions of download along the lines of: http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt jaunty main For me, and for some other LTS release users this, is helpful Please do NOT remove the old archive: as said 1.38 is the LAST one before a regression made newer versions of wine useless for me. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The add-apt-repository command might not exist on Jaunty, but the Wine PPA repo publishes the latest development Wine releases for Jaunty: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wine/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=jaunty -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/ppa could not be found. Indeed, this file is not present, and not supplied by the apt package of Lucid. Could the documentation be adjusted to reflect this, too ? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
