[Bug 6971] Mouse "escapes" window or is confined to an area in the full screen program NO HACKS PLEASE

I have only xorg-server 1.7.7 and no xinput2 patch, but this bug was fixed (for
all the games I play, with or without the new option, in window/fullscreen
mode). I'm confused, Why was this not implemented earlier?
