[Bug 5264] Equation editor in Microsoft Office 97/2000/2003/2007 doesn't work

I have managed to install Office 2003 and get word to work.... I did try to execute the equation editor directly from a terminal shell using: wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Common\ Files/Microsoft\ Shared/EQUATION/EQNEDT32.EXE This does indeed open the equation editor in a window but of course the symbol font is missing.... so you can't generate an equation but at least the executable needed is present which is a first step. So maybe this is a clue that there needs to be a hook into this executable from within WORD that is missing?
