[Bug 40238] New: Liquid... Wen? (demoscene, Haujobb, 2002) crashes to desktop
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40238 Bug ID: 40238 Summary: Liquid... Wen? (demoscene, Haujobb, 2002) crashes to desktop Product: Wine-staging Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: aapmak(a)gmail.com CC: erich.e.hoover(a)wine-staging.com, michael(a)fds-team.de, sebastian(a)fds-team.de Distribution: --- Created attachment 53783 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=53783 Crash dump The demo (demoscene) "Liquid... Wen?" by Haujobb, made in 2002 consistently crashes to desktop at a fixed moment of its run. Demo can be downloaded here: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=7130 and a video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae8UK9mscWg The point it crashes is around the 07:05 mark, after (in-demo) a countdown completes, upon which another scene should start. This phenomenon has occurred for me throughout 1.7.x, 1.8.x and now also with all versions of 1.9.x and is not limited to just Wine Staging, regular Wine also exhibits this behaviour. Switching between PulseAudio and ALSA has seen no resolution either. Neither is it limited to just 1 set of hardware, for me at least. A crashdump has been attached. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40238 --- Comment #12 from kutajydam-5795(a)yopmail.com --- Addendum to my previous post: 1.9.11 does indeed still crash and it is still sooner than before but the 15-20 second mark was as a result of the Gallium Nine codepath in Gallium enabled Wine. Base 1.9.11 does still crash though and, as stated, faster than before. Given the varying nature of the crash point (07:05 originally, 15 - 20 seconds with Gallium Wine and ~6 minutes with 1.9.11) I'm thinking ... memory leak? Both 64-bit prefixes as well as 32-bit prefixes crash. Kernel version seems to have no impact whatsoever nor does Mesa version. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40238 --- Comment #13 from kutajydam-5795(a)yopmail.com --- 1.9.13 also crashing and this time, it does not even matter whether or not I use the Gallium Nine enabled Wine or not; it crashes very quickly either way. The demo itself does not matter tremendously, it is just one demo and an ancient one at that but the fact it does not run properly does suggest Wine is having issues with how the demo was coded; a demo which runs without any problems whatsoever on Windows. In other words -- Wine's implementation of the Windows API stack is, in this case, insufficient. Given the fact it is an older piece of software, this does suggest that other older software could have problems executing as well. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Both devel as well as staging. The demo will run but simply will not complete its run, crashing in a relatively unclean manner. Additionally leaving the desktop resolution distorted. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40238 --- Comment #16 from 7sn9gg+9s89ynchv42x4(a)sharklasers.com --- As of Wine 2.14, the demo completely stopped functioning. After its inital loading screen, it just fades to a single static frame and no longer does anything. Not even any sound is audible. Over the course of quite some time now, this demo by itself has demonstrated a tendency for regression within Wine. Away from complete compatibility with the Windows / DirectX APIs towards something I can assume is primarily focused on being compatibile with more contemporary software. Shame. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Over the course of quite some time now, this demo by itself has demonstrated a tendency for regression within Wine.
What kind of regressions? Starts up fine with wine 4.0-rc4. Original problem is still present though, crash around 7:05. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
