[Bug 17737] New: Command and Conquer Generals listens to loopback for network connections
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17737 Summary: Command and Conquer Generals listens to loopback for network connections Product: Wine Version: 1.1.17 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: cwadge(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=19949) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=19949) Screenshot of loopback behavior It seems that Command and Conquer generals listens only on the loopback address for network connections. As a result, network play is impossible. Strangely, sometimes you can actually see other games on the network, but you cannot join them. Even direct connections fail. When examining your own network settings, it seems bound to a loopback address (see screenshot). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17737 Chris W <cwadge(a)gmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Severity|normal |minor --- Comment #2 from Chris W <cwadge(a)gmail.com> 2009-03-15 17:20:55 --- Adding a workaround to the hosts file manually does give an additional local interface to choose through the menu, which does allow networking to work. However, with all due respect I believe this behavior should still be considered a bug. Breaking default Unix hosts behavior to enable networking for some Windows apps seems like kind of a hack to me. Since there seems to be a workaround, I'm dropping the severity. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I'm marking it a dup of 7929 for now, but marking it invalid is equally likely. See also bug 9405 for another game that's affected by the same thing. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 7929 *** -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
