http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25458 --- Comment #2 from mardini <superppl(a)gmail.com> 2010-12-08 12:12:20 CST --- There's no demo available that I know of. Running it in console didn't actually net any output, I guess that's the nature of Steam. I'm not sure how to get any useful information, so any help would be appreciated. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25458 --- Comment #3 from W3ird_N3rd <mailme667(a)yahoo.co.uk> 2010-12-12 21:15:22 CST --- Created an attachment (id=32473) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=32473) saints row 2 log I installed the game using rzrsetup. (yeah yeah, I only buy stuff when it actually works, this game doesn't work yet) Copied X3DAudio1_4.dll to windows\system32. Otherwise a clean .wine and running wine 1.3.8. Start SR2_pc.exe: THQ and Volition screens are shown, Gamespy logo comes on screen and at the same time a "The program SR2_pc.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close." screen. After clicking close you get another screen that says something about the Havok engine and after that there's a blinking "LOADING 5%" in the bottom left corner. Nothing happens after this. In the attachment the log. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The game does seem to get a little farther in the steam prefix than in a new prefix (IE with steam it gets to the main menu, without steam it doesn't). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

The thread from code weavers implies that the issue lies in d3d component, which makes me wonder if the game doesn't have a low graphics or safe mode that we could test. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I'm using wine 1.5.10 on a fresh prefix (note, I'm using the Steam version of the game, so whatever steam automatically installs (DirectX, etc) will of course be present in the prefix). The most relevant part of the console output seems to be this: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000004 at address 0x7e226ffd (thread 00d0), starting debugger... err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7bc47d15 err:seh:raise_exception Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception. wine client error:9f: write: Bad file descriptor fixme:iphlpapi:CancelIPChangeNotify (overlapped 0x3e44ec0): stub I can't seem to get it to generate a backtrace unfortunately. The "info process" method doesn't even list the game at all, and the "wine winedbg foo.exe" method instantly crashes the program with no output after I enter "cont" after setting $BreakOnFirstChance to 0. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

However, two separate issues seem to be reported in this bug report. The original poster mentions the menus you see before starting/continuing a game work fine. This is true for me. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25458 --- Comment #20 from Eric Molitor <eric(a)molitor.org> --- (In reply to Eric Molitor from comment #19)
I've opened a separate bug (linked via See Also) for the crash on App Launch due to missing X3D_Audio when no overrides are provided. The issue in this ticket, crash when starting or loading a new game from the main menu, appears to be a D3D error but I'm having troubles narrowing down the exact issue.
Apparently I can't access the See Also field. The related item for crash on launch is https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39295 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25458 --- Comment #22 from Béla Gyebrószki <gyebro69(a)gmail.com> --- Still crashes in 1.9.6 but works in 1.9.9, 1.9.12 (it's just too slow to be playable). Please retest in recent Wine (preferably 1.9.12 or newer). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25458 --- Comment #23 from Adam Bolte <abolte(a)systemsaviour.com> --- I no longer get the crash in Wine 1.9.12. I was able to complete the first mission (break out of prison) without issue, whereas previously it would crash immediately after New Game or Continue was selected from the main menu. I think this bug can be closed. Regarding performance, I get basically the same performance with Wine as I do the native GNU/Linux builds - which is to say not great (playable but frustrating), but seemingly not Wine's fault. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Thanks for testing. I'm marking this bug fixed, based on the previous comment and my test result. I just didn't have time to do a reverse bisect to find out which commit fixed it. I tested this on a GT 730 with binary drivers 364.19 and nouveau/mesa git. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Tested with wine-1.9.11-gallium-nine and Radeon 6850: got about 35-45 fps most of time, sometimes even 60+. After 15-25 fps with so called "native" version i think its pretty playable now. And also wine version does not contain any multi monitor or mouse bugs i got with "native" version. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
