I don't have this problem with WINE 1.2.1 on the four boxes I've run Wizard 101 on. (All Debian Squeeze (testing).) I seem to recall having this problem with 1.1.x versions of WINE, but it was just a matter of finding the right configuration/DLLs. Installing mfc42.dll and turning off hardware virtex and pixel shader support in winecfg is all I've needed to do to make it run on 1.1.x and 1.2.1.
