[Bug 58872] New: Activated windows (via alt-tab) are not raised (sometimes).
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58872 Bug ID: 58872 Summary: Activated windows (via alt-tab) are not raised (sometimes). Product: Wine Version: 10.17 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: winex11.drv Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: chiitoo(a)gentoo.org Regression SHA1: 8094acfbfddf0681d6c9fa2d61788da7d7b781cf Distribution: Gentoo This might be invalid/a KWin-X11 issue, but so far it seems that after 8094acfbfdd [1], applications running via Wine sometimes "confuse" the window manager with regards to what is the currently active window. So far I can not re-produce the bad state at will, but it feels like it happens quite often, starting with the mentioned commit, which looks like it might(?) indeed have something to do with this. What sometimes happens is, I have 1 game window in "full screen windowed" mode in one monitor, and usually a second instance in a smaller window in another monitor, though they may be in the same monitor sometimes too. I then alt-tab to, for example, the Konsole terminal emulator, but the game window stays visible, and any input goes into Konsole; even though it is not visible, it is the active window. I can then alt-tab more, and the bad state remains until I do... something... possibly switch the active window using the mouse, or alt-tab through more different windows. I haven't yet quite figured out what restores the state. I don't think I updated KWin or anything else before this started happening, and I spent quite a while with bisecting this, but as it is someawhats random-like still, I can't say anything for sure yet. Does the mentioned commit look like it could be related to this? http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58872 --- Comment #2 from Chiitoo <chiitoo(a)gentoo.org> --- Tested at d9592c30a7b [1] due to conflicts, and unfortunately it seems the issue is still there. This one is still being quite elusive with regards to how to make it happen though. Sometimes it happens with just a few alt-tabs, consistently'ish, and then I go build at another commit and... it can take its time, or not happen at all. I will keep trying to make sure I can re-produce it consistently enough to say more for sure. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58872 --- Comment #3 from Rémi Bernon <rbernon(a)codeweavers.com> --- Could you please make a WINEDEBUG=+timestamp,+pid,+x11drv,+event log while reproducing this? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58872 --- Comment #5 from Chiitoo <chiitoo(a)gentoo.org> --- Created attachment 79655 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=79655 alt-tab issue output with +timestamp,+pid,+x11drv,+event,+win Got back to this, and now it seems that 0a7082d37ef [1] might have fixed this. Does that seem at least possibly plausible? Again, can't say anything for too sure on my side due to the nature of it all, but it is being awfully convincing at me during testing. Attached output should contain an occasion of the issue happening, at commit b3291a27544 [2]. Created attachment 79655 [details] alt-tab issue output with +timestamp,+pid,+x11drv,+event,+win

Yes, it seems very possible, that commit fixes an issue which would cause X11 events to stay in the queue without being processed in several cases, and that can very well explain failure to apply focus. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Haven't seen the issue now for at least a couple of hours of the usual use, where I definitely would at least expect to have seen the issue pop up at times.
