[Bug 10117] New: Mpeg2Schnitt doesn't display video since wine v. 0.9.16
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10117 Summary: Mpeg2Schnitt doesn't display video since wine v. 0.9.16 Product: Wine Version: 0.9.47. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wine-directx-ddraw AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: jussaar(a)mbnet.fi Created an attachment (id=8682) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=8682) Full output of wine when running Mpeg2Schnitt Since wine version 0.9.16, Mpeg2Schnitt (a program for cutting mpeg2-files) has stopped showing video. This of course makes choosing the right cut points virtually impossible. When the program should display the video, wine prints out the following errors: fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x34f544,0x00000000), stub! err:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetDisplayMode Width=0, Height=0, what to do? I have tested both multiple versions of wine (including the newest 0.9.47-version) and Mpeg2Schnitt (versions 0.71, 0.80 and 0.87). Mpeg2Schnitt is distributed under GPL2 license and available for download at http://www.mdienert.de/mpeg2schnitt/ -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I can get the process to work again using VMware with a copy of Sarge.
From what I understand of the process, you need to have split video and audio files. The program takes them as separate inputs and cuts them separately as well. If you have a .m2v file (mpeg2 video) you should be able to see the issue.

Hi Austin, Look for the pull-down menu titled "Sprachen" - it should be 3rd from the right, and select English. :) Also, if you don't have any split audio/video files handy to load, there are some M2V files available here: http://watermarking.unige.ch/video/samples.htm Any of the M2V files should load straight up, and the one titled short_video1.m2v is less than a megabyte so should be a fairly quick download. You should see the first frame of the video appear upon loading and you can use the left+right arrows to step through the frames. With Wine 0.9.15 it should all work fine, but from 0.9.16 on the video area will remain blank. Thanks for taking the time to check this problem out. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I had a look at your debian bug report (linked by Ove above) - are you saying that you had Mpeg2Schnitt working fine with Wine 0.9.25 on Sarge? If so, then perhaps a change made from Sarge to Etch (possibly xorg as you suggested) has conflicted somehow with the changes made to ddraw in 0.9.16. I have been using Ubuntu all along (currently running Feisty), but since it is based on Debian, that might explain why I've been having the same problem. It would be interesting to try some other distributions that use different X-servers and see if they have the same problem. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I haven't paid attention to the xorg versions that I have been using while testing Mpeg2Schnitt and Wine, but I've had the problem ever since Wine 0.9.16 was released. But if you still think that testing different xorg versions would help, let me know which ones you have in mind. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Hello, I have had a further look at my VMWare session, and the Sarge version that I currently have working is the standard 20050310 - I am about to "upgrade" to 0.9.25 and see how that goes. Further to my last post, I attempted to run with 0.9.25 on Sarge. Unfortunately, no go after I added the libwine-gl package - after getting an error message asking of DirectX 7 was installed (which obviously wasn't until I installed the libwine-gl package). It would appear obvious that there is some issue with the libwine-gl changes from 20050310 to 0.9.25 - and not necessarily related to Xorg as was my first thought. Russell. PS I have attempted again with 0.9.53, and I think that the error messages are a little more informative. The specific d3d and ddraw output is below. fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps OpenGL implementation supports 4 vertex samplers and 2 total samplers fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps Expected vertex samplers + MAX_TEXTURES(=8) > combined_samplers fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33f574,0x00000000), stub! err:ddraw:IDirectDrawImpl_SetDisplayMode Width=0, Height=0, what to do? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

No wonder. The major rewrite of d3d/ddraw code in 0.9.16 is a well-known cause of lots of bugs with similar symptoms. I'd personally love to kill off several of them as duplicates, but that would be a major job and likely of less use for now. Also, there'd be a risk of closing falsely some non-duplicates generated by different reasons. Basically the screen remains blank or black in those bugs and/or apps have slowed down considerably. AFAIR the cause is also majorly related with X11DRV, which often shows up in these bugs. And Andre is still working on it. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
