I have the same problem with Wine 0.9.18. I get the following kind of printouts
which seem to explain where the problem is:
err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles compressed file wasn't extracted
(L"c:\\Ohjelmat\\JoWood\\Arx Fatalis\\ARX.exe")
