The original issue was unimplemented function that got fixed and the bug evualated into not working demo. Unless you have the demo locked at your steam account. I think it's not possible to replicate the issue anymore.

What's wrong with the demo in the URL field?
The demo in the URL field requires Steam. In a clean wineprefix, it will try to install Steam but hang on updating it. If you run it in a wineprefix that already has Steam installed, it will open Steam and use it to download the actual demo to your account. I stopped the download when I saw it was 2.3 GB; someone with better bandwidth will have to test this. This bug was originally for a crash in an unimplemented function that was implemented long ago.
