So I gave it a shot. To install, you have to first do sh winetricks dotnet20 to work around the fact that .net doesn't quite install yet. The app starts, but hangs at the splash screen. You can see why by reading ~/"BrillKids/Little Reader/Data/error.log" Please install Microsoft Data Access Components(MDAC) version 2.6 or later. and The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. Doing sh winetricks mdac27 jet40 gets past those. Then you run into: No error message available, result code: E_FAIL(0x80004005). at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal..ctor(OleDbConnectionString constr, OleDbConnection connection) ... at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.Open() at BabyReader.DataBaseCheckTable.Check() in error.log, and err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {ecabb0c0-7f19-11d2-978e-0000f8757e2a} not registered on the console. That UUID seems to be associated with COM+, and is provided by comsvcs.dll, which Wine doesn't have. Why a baby reading program needs COM+ is anyone's guess. Unfortunately the version now available for download seems updated/different. There is no diagnostics like in your case shown. Additionally the app is now heavily obfuscated making it harder to get any meaning from execution flow. Can you provide the original app installer where you get that error from? I think in future it would be more helpful when some people archive demos/trials/apps on private server where downloads can be made available upon request to hunt down bugs. There are many bug reports which suffer from same problem: when I start looking at it, the original version is not available anymore. One has a hard time to find anything similar. The ability to replicate the exact problem with same version is important. And I do maintain a private archive, but it's poorly organized and partly offline. Since then there has been a further release, but the November release looks like it needs .NET 2.0/MDAC 2.8 and Jet 4.0.
