https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41592 Bug ID: 41592 Summary: Please restore https://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames Product: WineHQ.org Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: www-unknown Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: leslie_alistair(a)hotmail.com Distribution: --- Many websites refer to the following webpage. https://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlayGames Can it please be restored? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41592 Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio(a)earthlink.net> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Resolution|--- |WONTFIX Status|NEW |RESOLVED --- Comment #1 from Rosanne DiMesio <dimesio(a)earthlink.net> --- Wikis are subject to change, and anyone linking to a wiki page should be aware of that; the fact that other sites may refer to a page that no longer exists is their problem. Based on the Internet Archive, that particular page hasn't existed since mid-2013, and no one seems to have noticed before now. The information in the last snapshot, https://web.archive.org/web/20130511015110/http://wiki.winehq.org/DirectPlay..., is completely out of date. So no, it is not something that should be restored. OTOH, if someone wants to create and maintain a new, up-to-date page, they are free to do so. Anyone can create a wiki account and request edit privileges. Personally I believe the time would be better spent checking and if necessary updating the relevant AppDB entries, because that's really where that info belongs. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I thought the listed games was greater than what it is. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41592 --- Comment #3 from Bruno Jesus <00cpxxx(a)gmail.com> --- Rosanne, I understand your reasons and I'm not asking the page to come back, I'm just putting some extra points. The page was not updated because most of the research was made by a single person AFAIK, and also because MS phased out DirectPlay for developers in 2007, so no games will be using it for a long time now. That page is still particularly important because of the research made to detect the versions required for each game, this will make it easier to find where to test changes if we ever implement DirectPlay. In 2009 a GSoC student name Ismael Barros worked at it and produced a series of patches (repo.or.cz/w/wine/gsoc_dplay.git). https://appdb.winehq.org/viewbugs.php?bug_id=4066 is less technical but at least has a list of the games that depend on DirectPlay. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. This is exactly why I wanted this page. I'm happy to update the page, but how do you apply for Edit Permissions? (I already have an account). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

I believe you need to contact Jeremy Newman (or email wine-devel if that doesn't work). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

For what it's worth, https://wiki.winehq.org/WineHQ_Wiki:General_disclaimer (linked from https://wiki.winehq.org/Writers) claims you can e-mail web-admin(a)winehq.org to request edit permissions. Assuming that works, it may not hurt to put that information somewhere more prominent. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Tell me your wiki username; I can add you to the Trustworthy group (any of the wiki admins can). (In reply to Henri Verbeet from comment #6)

That is the process. I believe Jeremy Newman monitors that email.

I suspect the email account would get a lot of spam if it were more prominent. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
