I believe it has to do with the simulated bold font update, since it was not present in Wine 1.7.3. This bug is not severe, but 'l's look like capital 'I's and overall, it's either unreadable or ugly to look at. I believe that the bug is caused by one of the following, but I have absolutely no evidence to support it. Akihiro Sagawa (3): gdi32/tests: Add tests for fake bold outline fonts. gdi32: Adjust fake bold outline font metrics. gdi32: Synthesize bold glyphs for outline fonts. This bug does not adversely affect the software, but makes reverting to 1.7.3 appealing. In detail, this patch avoids increasing Y direction thickness if target font is small. This feature requires newer FreeType library (2.4.10 and/or later).

As the error messages you are getting says: "patch: **** strip count l is not a number" the character after the -p option of the patch command must be a number. Is still a bug in current wine(3.20)?
