[Bug 18290] New: Curse Client crashes since Curse.com enabled their premium service
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18290 Summary: Curse Client crashes since Curse.com enabled their premium service Product: Wine Version: 1.1.20 Platform: PC URL: http://www.curse.com/client/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P4 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: eiffel56(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=20820) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=20820) Output of wine with crashing Curse Client right after logging in The Curse Client crashes since Curse.com enabled their premium service(http://www.curse.com/articles/curse-en-news/462154.aspx). This is not a regression in wine since it worked with exactly the same version(1.1.20) a few hours ago. I also tested 1.1.14 and current git -> exactly the same. Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a Curse.com account 2. Download and install the Curse Client 3. Create a new folder(e.g "WoW"). Create a folder called "Interface" in it, and another folder called "Addons" in the Interface folder. Create a new file, write something in it, and copy it as "Wow.exe" and "Launcher.exe". This is needed to make the Curse Client think you have World of Warcraft installed. The Client does also crash if you have a real World of Warcraft installation. 4. Open the Curse Client, click Manage Games->Add Game. Set Label to something, Type to "World of Warcraft" and Install Path to the fake Wow folder you just created. 5. Watch it crashing. If you start it up again, you will notice that it'll crash again right after logging in. I guess this is caused by that new ad that is shown in the client itself since the premium service was enabled. It is not shown if you haven't registered at least one game in Curse Client. It will not crash if you haven't added a game. I will also attach the output of wine, which strengthens this theory. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18290 --- Comment #6 from Lisa Denia <eiffel56(a)gmail.com> 2009-05-03 19:28:44 --- Confirming that the bug has something to do with the new ad. The ad is a HTML page located under http://curseclient.curse.com/clientads-mpu.html and will be shown by the Curse Client in the addon list's bottom-right edge(CurseClient is an application that manages your game's addons). To achieve this, CurseClient embeds the Internet Explorer. The addon list is not shown until you register a game to manage. A workaround is to install Internet Explorer 6 using winetricks. CurseClient will start up correctly and the ad will be shown as it should. Another workaround is to just use native shdocvw and shlwapi(as a dependency) from the Internet Explorer package. The ad will not be shown, theres just a blank square where it should be, but CurseClient works correctly. So I guess the bug lies somewhere in Wine's shdocvw ;). A user in the official CurseClient forums reported that it works without tweaking if you have a paid premium account, which will disable the ad. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18290 --- Comment #8 from Lisa Denia <eiffel56(a)gmail.com> 2009-11-19 19:14:25 --- It is...sort of. The client won't crash anymore after you added a game, but it will show basically nothing. It doesn't freeze(the "File" menu still works, and I can exit normally), but I can't really use the application. I'll attach a screenshot, and wine's output. Installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 via winetricks still solves it. Tested using latest Wine from git on up-to-date Arch Linux x86_64, Wine running via i686 chroot. Winegecko is installed. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
