[Bug 23008] New: winhelp: Popups disappear immediately and are the wrong size
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23008 Summary: winhelp: Popups disappear immediately and are the wrong size Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc2 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk Created an attachment (id=28516) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=28516) ONLCFG.HLP compressed with bzip2 Links in help files which open pop-ups are broken in Wine winhlp32. (These links typically appear in green with a dotted underline.) What should happen: the popup appears when the link is clicked, and remains present when the user releases the mouse button. What actually happens: the popup appears, but vanishes when the user releases the mouse button. The popup is the wrong size, and has scrollbars on the right and bottom edges. (It's impossible to use the scrollbars since the popup disappears when the button is released.) Some popups have text missing. Example: Open the attached ONLCFG.HLP file in Wine winhlp32. Click "How do I?". Click "Letting your Intuit software ...". Click each of the underlined links: dial type, dialing prefix and disable call waiting. Notice there is no text other than the heading in the dialing prefix and disable call waiting popups. Click Tell me more. The popup which appears contains links to other pages in the help file, but it's impossible to select them due to the popup vanishing on mouse release. Compare with using winhlp32.exe from Windows under Wine to view that file. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23008 markk(a)clara.co.uk changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |markk(a)clara.co.uk --- Comment #1 from markk(a)clara.co.uk 2010-06-12 11:56:53 --- In Wine 1.2rc3, one aspect of this bug has been fixed. Popups no longer disappear immediately. However, they are still the wrong size, and there are some other issues. Some popups have scrollbars when none are needed because all the text fits into the popup window. If you click one of the scrollbars they vanish. E.g. open ONLCFG.HLP, click "How do I?" then "Letting your Intuit software..." then the dial type popup link. Click one of the popup's scroll bars. On clicking a link in a popup, sometimes another popup appears with the destination page. It is possible to get several "nested" popups showing at once, with no way to close them. The correct behaviour should be that the popup closes and the main window shows the destination. To demonstrate, open ONLCFG.HLP. Click "How do I?" and "Letting your Intuit software...". Click "Tell me more". In the popup which opens, click any link. A second popup opens over the first one. It it possible to continue that process, ending up with many nested popups. The popups cannot be closed without exiting winhlp32. On playing around with nesting popups and then clicking in the main window, I was able to crash winhlp32. I don't have an exact list of steps to accomplish that, though it is fairly easy to do. I will attach the console output. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23008 --- Comment #4 from markk(a)clara.co.uk 2010-06-29 14:35:18 --- I don't know whether this changed due to your patch (I'm testing with Wine 1.2rc5 now), but nested popup behaviour is still incorrect. See the LCW.HLP file I'm about to attach. Open it with Windows winhlp32. Click "Help, Basics" then "Autohelp popups", "Autohelp popups, turning On / Off". Click the checkbox popup link. Notice the checkbox popup has a popup link "accelerator key". Click that. The checkbox popup disappears, and the accelerator key popup appears instead. In comparison, with Wine winhlp32 when you click "accelerator key", notice that the accelerator key popup appears momentarily below the checkbox popup, then both popups disappear. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23008 --- Comment #6 from markk(a)clara.co.uk 2010-07-04 08:36:17 --- I got winhlp32 to crash while viewing LCW.HLP, console output is attached. I clicked Introduction, Working with Puzzles section, Submitting the puzzle when finished solving, then the Leader board popup link, then the Leader board popup link inside the Leader board popup. That doesn't always cause a crash, but usually does, especially if you click another popup link. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23008 --- Comment #8 from markk(a)clara.co.uk 2010-07-04 08:50:14 --- Another issue is that sometimes popups get stuck, remaining on screen even after you navigate away. When viewing LCW.HLP, try this: Click "Help, Basics", "Autohelp popups", "Autohelp popups, turning On / Off", then the checkbox popup link. Click the "accelerator key" popup link in the checkbox popup. The first time, the accelerator key popup immediately disappears as I mentioned above. If you click the accelerator key popup link again, it appears and remains on screen. Click in the winhlp main window. The accelerator key popup disappears, but the checkbox popup remains. You can click Back and other links, and the checkbox popup is still there. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
