[Bug 26954] New: DigitalSpace Traveler crashes after selecting avatar
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26954 Summary: DigitalSpace Traveler crashes after selecting avatar Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: mscdex(a)sbcglobal.net Created an attachment (id=34385) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=34385) standard wine 1.3.18 log The last time I tried DigitalSpace Traveler (2.03) was with wine 1.3.6, where it was still working. However, after a report on the software's appdb page and me trying with wine 1.3.18, it seems the app is broken after 1.3.6. The program crashes after selecting an avatar (about the time it attempts to download information from a remote http server). Any program interaction prior to selecting an avatar works just fine (changing profile information, etc). I've attached the console output from wine 1.3.18. If there is a specific WINEDEBUG setting I should use that would provide more helpful output for this problem, let me know and I'll attach another log. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26954 --- Comment #2 from brian <mscdex(a)sbcglobal.net> 2011-05-01 03:07:52 CDT --- Argh.... for the life of me I cannot get any version of wine to work with this particular application, even though I know it has worked in the past on a different machine with at least wine 1.2.x. I've tried every 1.3.x and all 1.2.x versions of wine now with no success. Recently I've been getting these errors: wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000024 at address 0x7bc4822c (thread 0029), starting debugger... err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7bc4822c But other times I will get something like this: err:heap:GlobalFree (0x82): Page fault occurred ! Caused by bug ? wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000082 at address 0x4af51f (thread 0030), starting debugger... This is driving me crazy because I knew it worked at some point in the past. Is there anything else I can do to help find the root cause? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26954 --- Comment #3 from brian <mscdex(a)sbcglobal.net> 2011-05-03 01:42:42 CDT --- Ok, I knew I wasn't crazy. I just set up a vanilla ubuntu 10.04.2 install, installed wine 1.3.19 and mfc42 from winetricks and the program works just fine! So it looks like there is something in 11.04 that is wonky.... I will try 10.10 next (these are all on the amd64 editions btw). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26954 --- Comment #4 from brian <mscdex(a)sbcglobal.net> 2011-05-03 03:43:12 CDT --- Ok, it also crashes on ubuntu 10.10 with wine 1.3.19, with the same error: err:heap:GlobalFree (0x82): Page fault occurred ! Caused by bug ? wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000082 at address 0x4af51f (thread 0030), starting debugger... So there must be something in the distro that broke wine with (at least) this particular application... Guess I could just try slowly upgrading different packages until it breaks, unless someone has a better idea? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Sounds like the problem isn't in wine, but in some other package. Please file a bug with Ubuntu. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26954 brian <mscdex(a)sbcglobal.net> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|RESOLVED |UNCONFIRMED Platform|x86-64 |x86 Version|1.3.18 |1.3.19 Resolution|INVALID | --- Comment #7 from brian <mscdex(a)sbcglobal.net> 2011-05-03 18:55:14 CDT --- Looks like I spoke too soon. I was just lucky that it worked that time on ubuntu 10.04. It consistently failed after that invocation, and I was unable to reproduce that working environment. It looks like it might be sound related though. The program has two parts, the main application and an rpc application (olsrvc.exe) that sits in the background and handles audio among other things. When I try running olsrvc.exe, wine crashes. I did some research and thought it might be because of pulseaudio in ubuntu, so I stopped and killed pulseaudio and uninstalled it. I then re-ran winecfg, made sure only ALSA was checked in the audio tab and made sure the test sound played. Running olsrvc.exe again gets me some different errors now, which I've now attached. I should note that if I uncheck all drivers in winecfg's audio tab, olsrvc.exe starts up just fine. Also, I've now upgraded to wine 1.3.19 and this testing was done with that version. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26954 --- Comment #8 from brian <mscdex(a)sbcglobal.net> 2011-06-04 06:10:50 CDT --- What other information can I provide that would help get to the bottom of this bug? I can attach a WINEDEBUG=+all log, but it's very large. Is there some other filter for WINEDEBUG that would be more helpful? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Using a more recent Wine version the application starts fine. Please try the application with Wine-1.3.37 (this is the latest one up to date) and confirm the fixed state.
