When Steam client didn't start anymore, Wine 1.7.8 fixed this bug and Steam got
back working again. :-) But since this version 1.7.8 audio in all games
stutter!

What games? Do any of them have free demos or downloads available to test?

A regression test would help, but it will be slightly tricky since you'll have
to apply the patch for the client crash on each bisect..

On Steam games. I tests some other WIne games and they work okay. But steam
games like Tomb Raider or Orcs Must Die 2 stutter during game (but not during
cut scenes).
