Sound should be expected at all times. The log does not show anything related to sound. Shouldn't I add overrides or something?
d3dx9_36 is also required (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31701). Finished Steam version of the game few days ago on Wine Staging 1.8 RC1. But for crackling sound in some videos, it works good "out of the box".

Tried xact, doesn't help. However, it sometimes seems to work. Just restarted the game a few times, and got it to work that way... Setting the "-forcestereo" parameter launch parameter for the game might have helped, but maybe that's just my imagination. I only tried it like 20 times. "-forcestereo" Thank you, also works for me. Sound was crackling and noisy at first runs, but It's all ok after I started the game with 80% of system sound level (also may be no correlation)

Tested on a clean wineprefix, none of the winetricks workarounds described here work. Oddly enough, if you force installation of d3dx9_36 then launch the game, sound in cinematics will be present but there will be no sound in the main menu instead.
