Component should probably be set to directx-dplay. This ticket has not been updated for over 900 days.
Is this still an issue in wine version 1.6-rc3 or higher or is this to be closed as abandoned ?
Retested in wine 1.7.6 in a clean wine prefix, and v 1.50 of the game works fine now. No dpnet override is needed anymore.
