I'm using Wine 1.1.10 in Kubuntu 8.04 64 bits and I can't even install Skype 4.0.0.145 Beta. I'm sending my console output, I hope that can help (I'm answering the calling for check old bugs).

There is a beta 4.0.0.145 (which this report is about), but there is an official 4.0.0.227.
The 4.1.0.130 one is again a beta one.
Surely we don't want to pursue issues with beta products when the official one is available?
If the beta works on windows, it should work on wine. Installing it with wine does not work, because the installer complains about some connection problems. I installed it under a native windows and moved the files over to wine. Using a virtual desktop Skype acctually allows me to sign in flawlessly. Information-Dialogs are shown, but as soon as the mainwindow is displayed, it crashes. Enable coredumpting (ulimit -c unlimited), run skype, make it crash. Run gdb on the core file (gdb core) and get the backtrace (bt). Attach it here.
