I just have discovered that the source code of Dink Smallwood has been released.
See for example dink.sourceforge.net
Maybe having the source would help fixing the bug.

I have checked the original binary version of Dink with the last wine-release
and the graphics error still persist.

Also, I have discovered now that there is a splash screen in the game (which is
not shown under wine). I guess this makes debugging a lot easier, since one
needs not begin a new game to see the bug.
