This can be reproduced both during "live" char sessions and also when testing "capture" from the Voice settings panel. I have reproduced this bug both with and without PulseAudio; with Intel HDA, Audigy 2 and Xonar D1 cards. So I must assume that this is something relating to Wine and ALSA. And it's impossible to downgrade WoW to that version again anyway. (I dimly recall MoP being unplayable with Wine when it was released too). For me, the "Voice Capture" works with the 32 bit Wow.exe and is "R2D2" with Wow-64.exe. For the time being I have found that wine 1.4.1 doesn't exhibit the problem and appears to play ok. All versions of 1.5.x and 1.6 seem to give me the r2d2 effect on my Lenovo X1 Carbon even though everything else works perfectly.
