[Bug 37418] New: Unable to paste images from linux clipboard to Wine apps workspace (affects Photoshop, Powerpoint etc.)
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37418 Bug ID: 37418 Summary: Unable to paste images from linux clipboard to Wine apps workspace (affects Photoshop, Powerpoint etc.) Product: Wine Version: 1.7.29 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: winex11.drv Assignee: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org Reporter: fincer89(a)hotmail.com Distribution: --- Note: This is not the same bug than 7372 (https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7372) as it deals mostly with text/html issue. Pasting a raster image from the clipboard or from a website (using native linux web browser like Firefox) to the Photoshop workspace doesn't work. The paste button stays greyed out, no matter of what. The workaround, which is basically saving the image to the computer and opening to the Photoshop, is a cumbersome, less user-friendly and time consuming method: you need to save the image file and look for it from a local directory structure and then open it. Much more complicated than just copying the image to the linux clipboard and paste it to the Photoshop, isn't it? Very desirable Wine implementation would be a support for copy-pasting images from native linux programs to Windows-based programs straightforwardly without extra tricky steps needed. This is marked as a bug because the image pasting function is one of the fundemental functions in the program and, at the moment of writing this bug report, it does not work as it should do. All comments and ideas are welcome. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Very annoying, because every time I have to save screenshots and then import them rather than just paste. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. The steps that I have taken were to take a screenshot (pressing "Print" key), copy it to the clipboard -> File -> New -> Edit (unfortunately the Paste button doesn't show). -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37418 --- Comment #4 from Pekka Helenius <fincer89(a)hotmail.com> --- Maybe programs like: - Paint.NET: http://www.getpaint.net/download.html (no, this is not Microsoft Paint) - Windows version of GIMP: http://www.gimp.org/ - Windows version of Inkscape: https://inkscape.org/en/ And Windows version of Libreoffice, too? (Just curious: Does CTRL+V work for images in Libreoffice native Windows version? At least, this shortcut is one of the methods how Photoshop can handle pasting an image from Windows clipboard...) In general, just any Windows program having possibility to paste an image from Windows clipboard - one way or another - should do the job. I'm sure there are multiple free programs that can handle required behaviour. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I'm not sure which Wine version I had when this was still working, since it was back in December or November when I last used Photoshop and it worked. I'm running Wine 1.7.40, which I just updated to today, and still having this issue. I'm also unable to paste images into Photoshop. I'm commenting here because I am sure my issues is related to or the same as the one in this bug, re: wine having trouble interacting with native apps. Or should I file a separate bug for my problem? Ok, follow up to this. It turns out it DOES work, just not for Gwenview. Basically, I'm running KDE 4 and Arch Linux has moved over to the Plasma 5/QT5 versions of the KDE apps, of which Gwenview is one. Dolphin is still a KDE 4 app, though, so it lets me drag and drop, which is ok with me. I'm not sure if this issue arises from me using a mix of qt4/5 apps, or if it's because Wine and Plasma/Qt5 don't like each other. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37418 --- Comment #9 from Fincer <fincer89(a)hotmail.com> --- Tested on Wine 2.17 Staging ------------ Clipboard image copied from web browser (Firefox) & Kolourpaint Software: Adobe Photoshop CC 2015 (paste) Result: Copy-pasting images from clipboard works now with opaque PNG, JPG, GIF images but does not copy transparency information with transparent PNG, GIF images. ------------ Clipboard image copied from web browser (Firefox) & Kolourpaint Software: Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 (paste) Result: Copy pasting images from clipboard works with opaque and transparent PNG, JPG and GIF images. Copying a large image file takes a little while, however. I'm not sure how this is on Windows. ------------ Another Photoshop-related issue: Photoshop doesn't retrieve information about the size of on-clipboard stored image. On Windows, when you copy an image and create a new canvas (CTRL+N) in Photoshop, Photoshop retrieves copied image size information automatically so that the new canvas matches exactly the size of your copied image. Maybe I should open a new bug issue for this one or not? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
