Microsoft Money 2005 (UK edition) ran after installing Internet Explorer 6 using winetricks. Entry submitted to AppDB describing installation and running of the program. One action always crashed the program. Drop down navigation menu hangs application. This is the main "browser" drop down box in the main menu bar. All other dropdown boxes seemed to work ok. The program is perfectly usable without this menu bar, it is the program crash if you do use it that is the issue. Checked for terminal error message when "Drop down navigation menu hangs application". Does this still occur in Wine 1.7.16 or later?
Short answer using wine 1.7.17 on Ubuntu 12.04 is yes. Detailed answer below. Rename existing ~/.wine directory so a new one would be created. "wine notepad" worked and displayed the expected wine version. Installed money. Started msmoney, which started ok (no crash), but no menu items "worked", and very easy to cause a crash. Installed ie6 using winetricks. On trying to select/edit text directly in the "address text box" on the main menu bar the program locked up. The drop down box next to the "address text box" also did not work. By the time I had writeen this the program then terminated (crashed) itself. Answer: yes :-) Other questions: 2) Why are you installing IE6? 3) Does it crash without IE6 in a clean wineprefix? Questions 2) and 3) are related. With Wine changes made recently the program can install and start in a clean wineprefix (no ie6 etc). However, without installing ie6 the program is almost completely unusable. Money Deluxe Plus is also affected.
