[Bug 7065] Get SecuROM copy-protection working
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7065 --- Comment #77 from Rob Whalley <mail(a)robwhalley.co.uk> 2008-04-05 17:38:21 --- Just for reference, there is an interesting post on how older versions (4.8) of Securom work here: http://forum.alcohol-software.com/index.php?act=ST&f=32&t=1395 Although indirectly related, methods people have used to allow backup copies to be made seem to have revolved around reading the structural information of the disc using Data Positioning Measurement. The copy protection checks for the delays in reading the disc caused by the deliberate changes made to its structure during manufacture. I also found this interesting: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/wo.jsp?wo=2007026297&IA=WO2007026297&DISPLAY=ST... .. a patent application entitled "Method of Storing Rotating Media Data in Image File", which demonstrates an approach to storing the information about a disc in a Media Descriptor File. In particular, this diagram: http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/images/PCT-IMAGES/08032007/IB2006052961_08032007_g... Obviously, this doesn't help fix any Securom problems you might be having, but if (like me) you had no idea how the copy protection works, then it is educational. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
