Could you attach +class,+win log with current Wine? This will show if version 6
controls are used. Maybe it's where the difference is.

Ok, so it's using redirects. As a next step I'd run this launcher on Windows
with manifest removed from resources, to see if similar painting issues start
to appear on Windows too.

Trick: Disabling WS_CHILD with WinSpy++ makes background be transparent.
