[Bug 18804] New: WordPro's printed letters run occasionally run together
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18804 Summary: WordPro's printed letters run occasionally run together Product: Wine Version: 1.1.23 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: ToddAndMargo(a)verizon.net Hi All, I am using Lotus Word Pro N9.8.0208.1200. My printer is an Okidata B4350 LED printer (like a laser printer only fewer moving parts and the fuser does have to get as hot). I print through cups cups-1.3.7-8.el5_3.4 locally and cups-lpd-1.3.7-8.el5_3.4 remotely (virtual machines) using cups' "Generic PCL 5e Printer Foomatic/ljet4" driver. Occasionally, when printing from Word Pro under Wine, the letters will run together. I will attach a sample and the file that generated it. Please note. No program in Linux or any of my virtual machines does this, including this same version of Word Pro running under XP-Pro-SP3 and Virtual Box 2.2.4. You still can not print anything reliably from Wine. Is there any chance of getting this looked at in 1.1.34? -T -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Oh no. I can not print an invoice or an envelope. I have to do all my printing from Virtual XP. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I also tested with a full page from the WordPro readme. No letter-clash problems, I have a HP deskjet 870, using CUPS. The fonts involved seems to be the ms-core fonts. I printed your little test document. I also tested with a full page from the WordPro readme. No letter-clash problems, I have a HP deskjet 870, using CUPS.
Try an LED or laser printer using PCL5 language. You can print any document you want. Try something complicated.
The fonts involved seems to be the ms-core fonts. I presume you have those installed?

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18804 --- Comment #9 from Todd Chester <ToddAndMargo(a)verizon.net> 2009-12-11 20:44:53 --- Wine 1.1.34 For what is is worth, I tried printing out a large invoice with Wine. It came out almost perfectly. The only mistake I found "items 1-7" got run together as "items1-7" (lost the space). Since it was reproducible, I tried removing msttcorefonts and replacing it with XP.Fonts (my fonts directory from my Virtual XP machine). No symptom change. Maybe that tells us something. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I really, really need to print. Will you guys please fix this in rc5? Extra info: the same text mangling also occurs when I print to my CUPS virtual PDF printer. So, you do not need my printer to test this. I sent you some more picture of mangled text. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18804 --- Comment #13 from Todd Chester <ToddAndMargo(a)gmail.com> 2010-11-14 23:48:47 CST --- Guy! I really need this fixed. I have a lot of fax'ing I need to do from Word Pro coming up. Making post script files in my Xp virtual machine is a real pain in the neck. It is much easier to use CUPS virtual PDF printer (don't let it default to your desktop and it will create a post script instead of a PDF). I really need this fixed! I can sound much more pathetic, if you like. :-) Many thanks, -T -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18804 --- Comment #15 from Todd Chester <ToddAndMargo(a)gmail.com> 2011-08-12 20:19:57 CDT --- Hi Guys, I just fixed a similar problem with (Linux) Libre Office where the letters "de" would run together by upgrading my CUPS ppd file for my printer. (Didn't fix this problem though: print to pdf still runs together same as a real print out.) Since this problem occurs when both writing to my printer and with CUPS-PDF, I do believe there is a similar problem in the CUPS printer interface: whatever it is that passes data to CUPS. I still have to boot into my XP Virtual Machine to print due to this problem. Run together letter on invoices do not look professional. -T -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
