now it no longer starts.

It seems like this is fixed in current git. In wine-10.6 exits silently with:

0180:fixme:dxcore:DXCoreCreateAdapterFactory riid {78ee5945-c36e-4b13-
a669-005dd11c0f06}, ppv 00007FFFFE1FEAC0 stub!

Starts fine in current wine, reverting 6bfd4eb5ec48581479235bd99a88adab91a2aee2
( dxcore: Implement DXCoreCreateAdapterFactory()) makes the program exit
silently again.
