[Bug 23245] New: Wine Configuration Editor About Dialog is blank
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23245 Summary: Wine Configuration Editor About Dialog is blank Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc4 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P4 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: ToddAndMargo(a)gmail.com Created an attachment (id=28942) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=28942) about tab Hi All, When I when to check my revision in /usr/local/bin/winecfg and clicked on the "About" tab, two things happened. 1) I lost the lower row of tabs and 2) the "about" was blank. It eventually painted after 5 minutes. But it painted the wrong tab ("Applications" instead of "About"). And no more "About" tab to try again. I have attached a screen shot. -T -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I also reproduce this under gnome. I thing the version is 2.16.0, but it is hard to tell. Hmmmmmm. I do a full recompile every new version. Do you do a "git"? Also, although this bug, which has repaint issues too http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18318 has always been with us well before rc2, maybe they are related. It's possible. I'm running the 256.25 drivers (beta).

I create a new (unix) user and fired "winecfg" from the new user's shell. The "About" tab works fine. It is not clear whether this is a problem with some kind of configuration or a corrupted profile. I have renamed all my ~/.wine/.reg files and my drive_c/widnows/Win.ini and system.ini without a symptom change. So, I am stumped. Any idea what to check next? If you do: $ WINEPREFIX=~/.winetmp winecfg
does it work there?
Yes it does. And, I came up with a workaround for my actual profile that may be a hint as to solving the problem: in WineCfg.exe, under the "Libraries" tab, I changed the order on "Comctl32" old (don't work): native, builtin new (works): builtin, native Does this tell us anything about the problem? And, can you switch your "Conctl32" to my old one and reproduce the problem? You were using native (Microsoft's) comctl32, which apparently does not play nice with Wine's winecfg. We can't fix their comctl32, and since it works with Wine's, the bug is invalid. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Hi Austin, Thank you for the explanation. Winecfg use to work under M$'s conctl32 and then stopped at rc2. My concern was that to get winecfg to work correctly (switching to Wine's conctl32), that programs that require M$'s conctl32 to operate correctly would be broken. I obviously had configured my conctl32 for M$s' version for some reason ages ago that I have forgotten. Since winecfg "used" to operate under both, it would be better to keep it that way. If you can find no current reason why anyone would ever need to run M$'s conctl32, then my concerns are unfounded. If my concerns are founded, please reopen this bug and fix winecfg.
